A professional resume should be first and foremost among your job-hunting priorities. A prospective employer decides whether or not to interview you based on this document. Take heed and ensure that it looks and sounds top notch.
Aesthetics of the Professional Resume
While what is written on your resume is going to sell you, it should appear professional as well. Always print on resume quality paper, which can be found in any stationary or office supply store. Stick with conservative colors such as off-white or light beige. Although it is tempting to get creative with colors like pink and purple, this is one standard you should adhere to.
Select a simple font like Arial or Times New Roman. Again, dont get creative with fancy fonts–they are usually distracting and can be difficult to read. You want your qualifications to stand out on your professional resume, not the typesetting or paper.
Nevertheless, good design is important. You dont need to be a graphic artist–your professional resume should simply look clean and easy to read. Look at some of your friends resumes or find some online and emulate the layout. If your resume is sloppy, the employer could think you will be careless on the job. A well-written, well-presented resume exudes professionalism and attention to detail.
